Leaving Port

 
  These pictures were taken from the Dover-Deal road, just behind the castle.  In each case, a car ferry has just left the Eastern entrance of the harbour en route for Calais, 22 miles away.  The hills of the Nord Pas de Calais can be seen in the distance.  Four small cargo vessels can be seen passing through the Straits (above), showing how busy this small stretch of water can be.
 
  The picture below shows a Seacat fast ferry leaving the western entrance of the harbour.  This picture was taken from the Prince of Wales Pier.
